Welcome

TCD does not simply find a blood flow signal. TCD is based on the patient's condition to find the correct blood flow velocities that can reasonably explain the patient's condition. Therefore, performing a transcranial Doppler (TCD) may be very stressful. To perform a TCD, you must understand the anatomy of the heart, the carotid arteries and the cerebral arteries that extend into the brain. At the same time, you must also be knowledgeable on hemodynamics. Doing a TCD, you must first locate the correct arteries, accurately record the blood flow velocities and pulsatility index (PI) to help doctors in understanding the possible condition within the brain. I am a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), and have experience on TCD for more than thirteen years. On every case completed, I am still learning and studying to improve the quality of my TCD. I think sharing is a special virtue, thus I hope I can share my knowledge and experience in the field of TCD to insure the stability of TCD studies benefitting both doctors and patients.
